WORKSHOPS & SEMINARS
- 22 november 2005
1st Transatlantic Telecom
Industry Forum
The Transatlantic Telecommunications Forum will address the
metamorphosis of the Telecom Industry on both sides of the Atlantic;
the Forum will move away from the traditional US- or euro-centric
debates. Beyond different industry structures and regulatory frameworks,
the face of the telecommunications industry is rapidly changing
in Europe as in North America, with the same drivers of growth via
broadband and mobile, with the spread of a variety of technologies
and applications – FTTx, 3G, WiMax, VoIP, IPTV… What
are the implications for the firms in the industry? Does this foreshadow
more consolidation? What are the regulatory implications? How can
conflicting policies among platforms, services, and technologies
be reconciled or removed?
This First Seminar will explore the scope of the transition that
has only just begun in the telecommunications sector, “the
Industry Convergence” (industry successes and failures on
both sides of the Atlantic, the growth issues, investments, disruptive
technologies, mergers and consolidation processes, content integration,
…), and
discuss
the necessary adaptations of the regulatory frameworks, “
the Policy Convergence” (broadband wireline & wireless
regulation, including unbundling, IPTV, DRM & media access,
mobile TV, frequencies management …), and
integrate
the presentations and offer lessons, forecasts, and recommendations
with a round-table panel.
