PLENARY SESSIONS- 24, november 2005
Bruno Bonnell, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Infogrames
Entertainment SA (IESA) and its U.S. subsidiary Infogrames, Inc.,
is one of the foremost visionaries in the interactive entertainment
industry. In June 1983, Mr. Bonnell, along with Thomas Schmider,
founded the Company with one goal in mind: to bring interactive
entertainment to consumers around the world across every available
distribution platform.
Since then, Mr. Bonnell has propelled Infogrames to a leadership
position within the multi-billion dollar video game industry. Today,
Infogrames is one of the top five software publishers in the world,
and is currently the #2 largest third-party publisher of interactive
entertainment software in both the U.S. and Europe.
Under Mr. Bonnell’s leadership, Infogrames’ operations
have grown both organically and through strategic acquisitions.
In late 1999, Infogrames acquired a 70% equity interest in GT Interactive
Software and subsequently merged those operations with Infogrames
North America, creating Infogrames, Inc. Additionally, in December
2000 Infogrames acquired Hasbro Interactive and that company’s
line of well-known brands, including Atari, Monopoly, Scrabble,
and Jeopardy, among others.
Today, Infogrames develops and publishes games across all platforms,
including PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo 64,
Nintendo Game Boy Color, Nintendo Game Boy Advance, Nintendo GameCube,
PCs and Macintosh systems. The Company’s catalogue of more
than 1,000 titles spans multiple genres and includes award-winning
franchises such as Alone In The Dark, Civilization, Deer Hunter,
Driver, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Test Drive, Unreal, V-Rally, and
the Humongous Entertainment franchises (Backyard Sports, Putt-Putt,
Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam and SPY Fox).
In addition, Mr. Bonnell has remained true to his original vision
of creating entertainment for mass audiences and has guided Infogrames
toward creative resources beyond the gaming world. As a result,
the Company has amassed a long list of well-known licenses, including
Survivor, Warner Bros.
Looney Tunes, Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues, Dragon Ball
Z, Mission: Impossible, Le Mans, AM General Hummer, Harley-Davidson,
Major League Baseball, and the National Football League, among many
others.
Mr. Bonnell has also continued to look beyond traditional gaming
platforms and has been a pioneer in extending the reach of entertainment
software. In conjunction with TV Canal +, Europe’s pay-per-view
cable giant, he founded Game One, the first European TV channel
dedicated to video games. Game One is among many endeavors Mr. Bonnell
is exploiting to take interactive entertainment to the next level.
Prior to founding Infogrames, Mr. Bonnell was involved with the
launch of the Thomson TO7, one of the first computers designed for
domestic use.
A graduate of the University of Paris Dauphine, Mr. Bonnell received
degrees in Economics and Chemical Engineering.
