Corporate telecom
services
"Core issues"
 |
The CIGREF, the
EVUA and Club 01DSI have joined with IDATE to
design a seminar focused on debate – offering
a chance for telecom and computer company executives
to swap views with technology providers and corporate
communication services providers.
The day will be devoted to the core issues
that directors of telecommunications and computing
firms will be facing this year.

Mobile business -
From telephony to the mobile office
• Session 1: Managing mobile fleets
Around one third of European employees are
equipped with a mobile phone for work, and
the rate of equipment is rising by a point
each year. Mobile phones have become an indispensable
tool for travelling workers and managers,
while also representing a sizeable expense
in company’s budgets.
Telecom executives are now facing a several
challenges: controlling costs (long-distance,
fixed to mobile calls), operator management
(multi-operator or not, pan-European or national
telco), and the convergence of fixed and mobile
functionalities.

Mobile
business - From telephony to the mobile office
• Session 2: The mobile office
Mobile office services really got off the
ground in 2004. They allow employees to access
their e-mail, the Internet and the company
Intranet. But, several issues remain: what
are the benefits for the company, and what
major advancements are expected from these
services: bitrates, handsets, security, portage
of corporate applications to mobiles.

Outsourcing - From
outsourcing telecom infrastructures to outsourcing
information systems
• Session 3: Telecommunications outsourcing:
how far?
Outsourcing is increasing at a phenomenal
pace due to the rate of technological change,
but especially due to economic imperatives
and the need to streamline corporate structures.
Contracts for managing virtual private networks
constitute the first step towards outsourcing,
but other trends are beginning to emerge:
hardware management, managing contracts with
operators, right up to BPO.
This major shift gives rise to certain fundamental
strategic issues: impact on the
company’s organization, consequences
of allocating roles between task management
and facilities management, the changing role
of telcos and integrators.

Outsourcing - From
outsourcing telecom infrastructures to outsourcing
information systems
• Session 4: Telecom services and
computing services
The growing convergence between LAN and WAN
has made it crucial to manage the coherence
between workstations, the company’s
internal network and its extended networks.
The sharing of roles between a company’s
telecom and computer teams, facilities managers
and telcos needs to evolve as well. In the
same vein, the transition to all IP and the
widespread use of major corporate applications
(SCM, CRM, SFA…) via the Internet is
dealing players a new hand (telcos, software
houses, software publishers, integrators).
What are the new frontiers? For which services?
