As Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, Matti Alahuhta is responsible for corporate strategy and development, research, venturing, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property rights, business infrastructure, quality, business improvement services and operational resource sourcing.

Matti joined Nokia in 1975 and, after a short stint at Rank Xerox in 1982, rejoined Nokia in 1984. He spent 14 years at Nokia Telecommunications (today Networks), being named President of Nokia Telecommunications and a member of the Group Executive Board of Nokia in 1993. In mid-1998 he was appointed President of Nokia Mobile Phones.

His present position and responsibilities Matti took over on January 1st 2004. Matti serves on the board of Kone Oy, and is Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). He is also Chairman of the Finnish Technology Industries and Vice Chairman of the Confederation of Finnish Industry and Employers. He is a Commander of the Order of the White Rose of Finland.

Matti holds a doctorate in engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology. He wrote his doctoral thesis on “Global Growth Strategies for High Technology Challengers”.

Matti was born on June 22, 1952. He is married and has two children. In his spare time, Matti’s hobbies include golf, tennis and reading.
