John F. Riordan, is CEO of United Pan-Europe Communications N.V. (UPC). He is also President of ECCA (European Cable Communications Association) since April 2003.

Mr. Riordan joined UPC as the company’s Executive VP in March 1998, became a member of the UPC Board of Management since September 1998 and was appointed President of UPC in June 1999. In September 2001 he was appointed as CEO of UPC.

In March 1999, John Riordan became Chief Executive Officer of chello broadband n.v.

In September 1998, he was also appointed Vice-Chairman and President of UPC’s Advanced Communications Division, overseeing implementation of the company’s Internet/data services and digital distribution network.

From April 1997 until March 1998, Mr. Riordan was a member of UPC’s Supervisory Board. He has also served as a Director of UnitedGlobalCom since March 1998.

From 1992 to November 1998, Mr. Riordan was Chairman and CEO of Princes Holding Limited, the Irish multi-channel television operating company of which UPC owned 20% until its sale in November 1998.

From 1987 to 1990, Mr. Riordan was Chairman of the Riordan Group, a holding company that held interests in property development, civil engineering and tiling manufacturing, of which one subsidiary was taken public on the London Stock Exchange.

In the mid-1970’s Mr. Riordan became Chief Executive and majority shareholder in the O’Gorman Prestcold Group, which, under his guidance, developed into one of the largest commercial refrigeration design and services businesses in the UK.

In 1971, John Riordan founded one of the first computer outsourcing services companies in the UK. He also developed a range of business interests through acquiring equity stakes in companies requiring management reorganisation and financial restructuring.

After qualification as an accountant, receiving a practicing certificate, and obtaining industry experience with SmithKline Beecham, Rank Xerox and the Armstrong Cork Company, John Riordan established his own public accounting practice in 1969, which he sold to his partners in 1979.

Mr. Riordan is a trained accountant, a fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and a fellow of the British Institute of Management. He was born in Co. Kerry, Ireland on 7 June 1942 and educated at Rockwell College, Cashel until he joined a London chartered accountancy practice to commence his training as an accountant. He is a member of FCCA and FBIM.

John Riordan is married with four children.
