Phil Barton graduated from Manchester UMIST University
with an honours degree in Control Engineering
and Management Sciences. He then qualified as
an accountant but left that behind for the more
exciting field of telecommunications.
After early careers with PO Telecoms and Cummins,
Phil worked for ICI/Zeneca /AstraZeneca from 1976
to 2000, becoming Group Telecoms Strategy Manager
in 1995. Phil worked mainly in telecommunications
but also had a time in purchasing and traded in
metals both on the LME as well as buying platinum
and gold for the company. Phil is an experienced
Network designer, project manager, contract negotiator
and contract manager. Phil was also director and
for a time Finance Director of TMA/CMA resigning
in 1998 when EVUA Ventures was formed.
Co-founder of the EVUA, Phil was chairman between
September 1995 - 2000. During which time the EVUA
grew from 25 to around 80 MNC members and became
one of the leading international users associations.
In 1997 Phil founded EVUA Ventures, a Limited
company providing many services including contract
lifecycle management and benchmarking for the
EVUA Members. In December 2000 Phil retired from
AstraZeneca and took on the EVUA Ventures role
full-time (having been part-time in the previous
2 years). The most recent project Phil has been
involved in is the Pan –European Railway
IPVPN supporting HIT Rail.
The only regret in joining Ventures is that being
no longer eligible as a member of EVUA Phil had
to resign the chairmanship of the EVUA, which
is now in the capable hands of ED Vonk of Shell.
Phil is company secretary to the EVUA Limited
and as well as CEO and chairman of EVUA Ventures
Limited which is a wholly owned subsidiary of
EVUA Limited.
